Throughout the month of April, anyone 12 years old or over – both solo artists and vocal groups – will have the opportunity to use the state-of-the-art studios to audio- and video-record their a cappella audition and state why they think they have what it takes to be a global superstar.

All auditioners should confirm eligibility and review THE X FACTOR / MyStudio Audition Video Submission Terms and Conditions.

The unprecedented audition studios allow hopefuls the chance to audition for THE X FACTOR if they aren’t able to make it to the open auditions. THE X FACTOR is the first singing competition show to utilize these state-of-the-art recording studios, giving more people the chance to become a global superstar and win a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music.

The hopefuls who recorded in MyStudios that are selected by producers to move forward in the competition will advance to the next round of callbacks and will be offered the opportunity to continue their audition, in person, in Dallas or another audition city as determined by the producers.

“These studios were brought to my attention some months ago, and we think they are brilliant way to audition for those people who haven’t been able to make it to the cities,” said Simon Cowell. “MyStudio has kindly let us use these high-tech studios for THE X FACTOR auditions, which record studio-quality sound and video to make the audition tape, and I’m very excited for anyone who decides to use these to audition.”

During the open auditions, The X Factor Hotline (1-855-345-5678) will be updated with relevant audition details.

Hopefuls should sign up for Audition Information alerts now and check back regularly for updated information, rules and registration forms.

This is a wonderful audition idea! I went to the LA auditions and felt as if the judge could not hear the quality of my voice because of the fact that there were 10 people screaming at the top of thier lungs all around me, during thier own audition. This is a great opportunity for me to let my voice do all the talking with no distractions! I am so there! X FACTOR HERE I COME!!!!!!!!

So, from my understanding, the auditions for the booths are “free” to record , but then you must purchase the video if you want to upload it for an entry into the competition. Trickery.

Thank you so much for this! It’s great to have the chance to audition right here in my home town. I’m excited to step out and show it’s never too late to step up to your passion and give it a shot. it would be great to have one of the mobile studios in Connecticut or as close as you can get one to my state. i am a business owner, and it would be hard to find time, to go to the other regular auditions . i have sang in front of 3000 people on a cruise ship, not to long ago, and became very popular the rest of the cruise.it would be great to have the opportunity to sing in front of more people, what a feeling that would be. i also recorded my own Christmas CD and handed them out as Christmas cards. i love the way music can make you feel, but making people feel the music from you, there is nothing like it, the word awesome comes to mind. thank you very much for your time.

This is really a great opportunity for those people who are not able to come to the auditions but i think it is not fair because of all of us who had to make many changes in our schedules so we can attend the audition. Not to mention the cost (plane ticket, hotel, food etc…)
And there is no waiting, waking up so early in the morning for 2 days in a row, and standing in the line for hours and hours.
You should have brought this up earlier because it is really unfair.
The audition will cost some of us like 500 bucks, and someone people will record their audition and finish everything in 10 minutes…
Again…not fair, and not very professional…

    One suggestion on voting:

Instead of voting for the winner, people should vote for who should leave the show instead. This will avoid the mistake of eliminating the wrong contestant who is so good that everyone takes him/her for granted.

Are there any plans to add additional booths or to let people submit online auditions? If there are plans to add an additional booth, it’d be great to have one in the New England region! I live in NH and it’s a 5 hour drive to Newark, and I (and many others) would need to take multiple days off of work to make the trip work. A booth in MA though would allow people from all over the New England region to make day trips to the audition, without having to worry about hotels. Of course, online auditions fix the travel problem altogether. I think an online option would greatly increase the number of auditioners by making it accessible to more people. Please consider this!

I would like to udition, however, if you don’t have a wristband by today you cannot do it. I go to school, I think it would be fair to have the a capella versions of the auditions first over the internet and chose from there. That way we are traveling because you already like us…with the current economy as it is , it really is not fair to only have auditon booths in certain places, but others have to take a plane drive far, hotels, food, and stand in lines for a very long time which isn’t fair to them because their voices can get hurt by the weather. it’s 2011… so it is possible, you know…well that’s it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o4L15bXsb8 “Promise” live 9th grade Original singer/songwriter copyrighted 2010

I’d like to start off by saying that I auditioned horribly on Wednesday in Seattle. If I was judging I wouldn’t have given me a yellow paper either. I just want to get that out there so that the following isn’t perceived as anger, frustration or sadness about being rejected. I simply wasn’t good enough and the “no” was warranted.

That said, I’d like to mention how shocked I am that an event so poorly designed has Simon Cowell’s name on it. For a person who has proven to have such high expectations when it comes to the performances of others, I expected much more than what the X Factor staff delivered to the Seattle folks last Wednesday. The process was very uncomfortable and the majority of the staff was very rude and abrasive. The only things they were missing were whips and cattle prods.

As I moved around Key Arena I heard quite a few opinions from people regarding the event. Here are some of my own thoughts as well as some of the thoughts from people around the arena.

You required us to be in line no later than 6:00am, which is fine if you’re going to follow through with the rest of what the literature states. But that’s not what happened. We were left STANDING (the rules prohibited us from bringing chairs to sit on) outside in temperatures in the 30′s until nearly 10:00am. 4 hours so you could get enough camera footage? Very poorly planned.

The rules stated that registration would close at 6:30am on the day of the auditions and that there is to be no camping out, no bringing instruments, no chairs, and no coolers. None of these rules were followed and none of them were enforced. For instance, many folks showed up for registration the day before auditions at 6:00am. It is a fact that many of these people ended up in the LAST section to be auditioned while people who registered AFTER 6:30 on the 20th were within the first couple sections to be auditioned. This may sound trivial to some folks but let’s not forget that those who planned ahead and followed the rules did so for a good reason and were rewarded with being placed in the last section behind people who shouldn’t have even been allowed to register. Having to stand in the cold for 4 hours and then sit in a Key Arena seat for another 9 hours probably isn’t the type of conditions that foster 5 million dollar performances; especially when the only food available is ridiculously overpriced concession junk. If you’re not going to allow people to leave the venue to grab a bite to eat or bring in their own food then you should provide something a bit more nourishing than foot-long hotdogs and super nachos and things more affordable than 4 dollar bottled waters.

Shortly after the auditions began the staff offered the last couple sections the chance to be taken to another nearby venue to relax. They said it would be many hours before those sections would be called and that the building next door would be a comfortable place to hang out and relax in. Most people in those sections took advantage of the offer and soon found themselves outside again, waiting in line for the camera crew to finish lunch so they could come to the venue, set up their gear and film a large group of Seattle folks going to an X Factor party. After finally being let into the building these exhausted people were welcomed by reporters, microphones and pounding music.

The last thing I’ll mention is that I think the open auditions were a good idea. The problem is that there are always people/groups in the crowd who don’t have any respect for others and feel it necessary to scream at the top of their lungs because their friend got a yellow paper. I’m sure the other 25 people in the middle of their audition appreciate that. Not to mention the people who begin screaming next to the audition booths because they just received their own yellow paper. Once again, I’m sure the people whose auditions were interrupted by those outbursts really appreciated it.

I wonder if Simon would appreciate it.

Has anyone yet been in receipt of answers from X-Factor staff addressing any question posted on this thread? What is the purpose of this forum? Seems bizarre to me that there are so many unanswered questions and that the website was not designed more thoroughly so as to address many more issues than it presently does. There are myriad inquiries and issues that have yet to be published and promulgated on this X-Factor site. The terms “frustration” and “disappointment” don’t even begin to scratch the surface of the angst and confusion that has been generated by innocent unwitting folks making a sincere effort to make heads-or-tails out of all this information, misinformation, and sometimes nebulous data; most of which is very important and should be more accurate, detailed, and thoroughly addressed and presented.

One such question I have is as follows: If an individual purchases an airline ticket, flies to a city where a MY STUDIO audition booth is in-place, typically how many days would that individual have to remain hanging-around until their audition booth appointment date comes about? If one registers on a Monday, for instance, and receives an appointment card, would one expect to have an appointment on the next day, the day after, or several days after completion of the initial registration process? I, for one, would certainly become devastatingly upset were I to fly to one of these cities in good faith (based upon the vague information presented on the website) only to discover that I may become required to spend several days there prior to getting to visit the booth for an audition. Geez Louise, if someone were to fly to, let’s say Phoenix on Monday, 4/25, would it be possible that the individual would have to stay all week until Saturday, 4/30, which is the last day of booth audition availability? Is it also possible that the person arriving on Monday, 4/25 could get “shut-out” altogether; i.e., staying all week long and then still not getting a chance to audition before the audition booth closes for good??? This is important stuff here, but somehow inexplicably does not seem to be adequately covered within the material available on this website. Very precarious circumstances form the get-go!!! It’s just not right for X-Factor principals to conduct business in such nebulous and cavalier haphazard fashion!!!

I auditioned in one of the auditions booths in Nashville yesterday. It went GREAT. There were no lines, they let you do a practice video and will send it to your e-mail to view before you shoot, and my audition went very smoothly.
To answer a few questions people have had:
1.) We personally did not have to use an audition appointment card. There is no line.
2.) BRING your birth certificarte and school ID/ Driver’s liscense, we did not need to use them but your location may require them. Also, DO NOT forget the paperwork. Nashville had amazing workers who had print-outs for you but not all locations will.
3.) The e-mail they send you is simply a confirmation e-mail afterwards to let you know that your audition was submitted. I repeat, YOU DO NOT need to send them the video yourself. It is automatically sent, from my understanding.
4.) I would definetely say that the audition mystudio booths have better sound quality. In fact, from my practice video, the sound quality is absolutely amazing compared to being in an arena.

We were going to audition in Chicago in 2 days, but we decided this option made a lot more sense. And it really does. We almost missed it. I hope that Simon will open more mystudio booths around the country before May 27th when the callbacks rounds start.
Does anyone know around what time we will find out if we are called back? I’m assuming it will be a few days to a week after the booths close on April 30th, but I’m no expert. It’s the one thing I’m on edge about…
Lol. Good luck to all of you!!!

Auditions in Chicago were simply HORRIFIC! On Tuesday we arrived at the Sears Center at 1:30 am and waiting in the poring rain until about 6am at that point we were 5th in line for our tickets. Wed we came back around 4am to waiting once in the poring rain. Something was so wrong with how the Auditions went once people were lined up to go to the booths. About 99% of the people that were sent to the center lines were all given “NO” and the line went way too fast, while the 2 outer lines took forever for people to move through. And about 97% of the people that were in the outer lines got the “GOLDEN TICKET”. My son happen to have been sent to the center line and at that moment I just knew then it was going to be a No before we event made it to a judge all we would hear through the curtains from other contestants judges was NO, NO, NO! When my son got in front of the 2 judges they asked him some simple questions and then he started singing. He sang Cry Me A River by Micheal Buble and he was so perfect, flawless and loud and crystal clear. Trust me I am not just saying that because I am mom. Other contestants from the stands could hear him and were in devastating shock when he got cut. Once he was done the judge just said “unfortunately it is a No” But the girl that cuts the wristbands asked the judge once again” Are you sure you want to cut him” and the judge said “yes”. even after we waited for the girl to cut his band the judge had already said “No” to the contestant that followed behind my son. I find it to be very intriguing as to what is the real deal of how they “judges” weed people out.

I’ve been singing since I was 8 yrs old and I am now 30 going on 31 in june. if you all come to my page on youtube. i’m http://www.youtube.com/29charlene and listen to me I even sing some of my own music i wrote and i think i can roll with some of the best…. so what the Heaven are they Really looking for. it won’t be no real competition if it ain’t no Real Sangers. not knocking the one’s that made it, I’m just saying i saw some of the best even better than I, and they were told NO!!! so for me, I’m on to the next one.

@ Ponicki – don’t feel bad about your son…he probably was INCREDIBLE and if he got the same judge as I did…the guy just was either too wasted from being on drugs or partying too hard the night before…or never got a deserved break and was just not up to judging correctly. Had this guy actually been awake, I know I would have been passed through. I saw a lot of ‘freaky’ people get passed through. This is not to say that they weren’t amazing singers, I have no way of knowing that…but it seems that XFactor is another AGT and American Idol, where unfortunately, talent is not the utmost ‘factor’…but moreso, looking like a birthday cake, or a Superman or a golden wonder woman. I think its a travesty that a lot of people were passed through that I heard either practicing or in the booths nearby that were just ‘okay’ and then I would hear other people who blew the curtains back and they were passed over. If it were SIMON judging, I don’t believe that would have happened. Simon is no BS and spot on when he makes his comments. Unfortunately, the judges that are picked to pass on the talent are ill-equipped, rude and either on drugs or not given proper breaks. To fall ASLEEP before someone starts singing is ludicrous and outrageous…and I think if Simon knew what was going on, he’d be outraged. The man is amazing and knows his stuff…so I can’t imagine him letting things like this go..its a scary shame…I have every intention of watching the opening show to see if I recognize anyone from the lines in Chicago. I’m sure a lot of the ‘misfits’ will have been passed through and then once the ratings for the freak show go up, they will be passed OVER like the many talented individuals that I met that day. Just such a shame…here is me at home w/o any bells and whistles – just Karaoke background music. This is the song I sang at the Chicago auditions to sleeping beauty and got a ‘no’ just like your son. Tell him to never give up…EVER EVER EVER. you go, Ponicki!! :) Love and hugs to all – Courtney Grieco http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7LyGa_dxgE&feature=grec_index

We were so excited when our daughter was chosen by a new station to receive an audition pass. Drove to the location over 5 hrs stood in rain for almost 3, and she was ready to sing very warmed up and looked drop dead gorgeous (19 and too pretty to be truthful) – she went into the huge curtain cubed area and two judges listened to what they could hear. She said the other singers around her were so loud she could not hear herself and they had to have her stand 2 feet from them to hear her. The female older judge asked what song are you singing and she told them – then the female judge said, “that’s a bad song, I don’t like that song” – and kept shaking her head, the no nods all the time – when finished singing what frankly was a fantastic version of her song one few men other than the original singers (two to be exact) can sing – with her version getting world wide stats lighting up the world except China – saying they did not think anyone else could ever sing this same song so well – the man of course not knowing any of this – said – “Yes” to her while telling her he could barely hear her song….the woman also said, she could barely hear the singing – and that because she did not like the song choice she said – “it’s a no and I over ride the yes”, so it’s no. This all happened in about 30 seconds. What kind of an audition pass contest was this? I understand auditioning masses of people is well to say the least got to be a nightmare – but could she not have at least had the 30 seconds with a less noisy area and someone who judged her voice not a song that she chose to show off her vocal ranges, strength, beauty and abilities for those well deserved 30 seconds? How about someone stepping in – you have my email give her a real audition and if she does not literally shock hell right off the side of the planet – like she lights up Youtube I will eat your dirties socks on TV! Find her at Joannalaurensings channel on Youtube and look at the quality she has posted for about 4 yrs with lousy equipment – she’s been called better than many of the original singers – an awesome thing for a 14 – 19 yr old’s basement recordings. This is a bigger X-Factor Advertiser than 10 thousand people standing desperate in the rain – this girl sings for many charities by invitation – and other Big things for free – she only wanted a real 30 second interview with a real judge of her talent.

After traveling to Chicago from Cincinnati alone, driving with a friend for an hour and a half each way to the wrist band sign up, and then traveling for two hours (due to weather) each way the following day for the auditions, I have never been so humiliated in my life. First of all, you asked the auditioners to prepare two songs, then later to prepare three songs. I wasn’t even given the opportunity to make it the second verse of a song, let alone two songs. I was one of those people that were sent to the center line also, and was originally center to line No. 10, but, because line 9 was moving so fast, and line 10 was not moving, I was moved over to line 9. The reason why it was moving so fast is because the judge for line 9, the first booth that you come to, to the left, was the one telling everyone NO, and not even taking the time to give the person an opportunity to actually audition.

I feel so upset and ridiculed from this audition that I haven’t even been able to sleep at night, because I KNOW what my God given talent is, and at the blink of an eye, without even being given a chance, someone who probably can’t sing themselves out of a paperbag tells me NO.

I am well known around Cincinnati, as well as other states for my singing abilities, and there isn’t a person you can ask that knows of me, which there are lots, that I have an inability to SING!!!

Lastly, to hold auditions in the middle of an arena, where other people all around you are singing, the crowd in the arena seats cheering for people who made it through, and judges not giving people a chance to even sing their song or songs, because those are the CUT THROAT BOOTHS is a JOKE!!!

People don’t have money to throw away, traveling five plus hours to an audition, running up and down the road, paying $20 for parking each day of the venue, and thinking that they’re going to be given a fair chance to sing at least one song, only to be made a mockery out of and left feeling high and dry for no apparent reason, other than trying to pursue a dream. That is just sad.

THANKS A LOT X-FACTOR. YOU GUYS REALLY NEED TO REEVALUATE YOUR SYSTEM.

    Signed,

    VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Wow, every time I read a new comment from someone who auditioned in Chicago, I shake my head back and forth with an overwhelming feeling of heartache. SOO SOOO many talented people were passed up…the 19 year old from above (JoannaLaurenSings) and the 29Charlene woman…you ladies keep it up, because you are AWESOME. I went to your sites and you DO have what it takes, as do I. XFactor does not define people…it is just another competition searching for some ‘media heat’ by way of people dressed like superheros and birthday cake toppings. Its all about the ratings….its all about the freak show. Whether these people can sing or not is not the issue…it is about the fact that for the people who spent hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the plane ticket, the hotel, the daily parking, the ‘right outfit’ (HA, I should have dressed like Lady GaGa’s spaceship and probably would have been passed through) and lord knows what else, thinking that they have a REAL shot are crushed to find out that the judges are nobodies who don’t know a thing about talent or music. There are probably hundreds of us with the same gripe. For the ones who got passed through…congrats, and I mean that sincerely. If you are a funky dresser, but you’ve got the chops…dress like a pork chop if you want, thats great. For the people who were NOT passed through and just were well put-together with their choice of outfits, or didn’t ‘shine’ with million dollar clothes…DON’T GIVE UP!! Look at all the people who were passed up on Idol (Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, Clay Aiken, Colbie Callait etc…etc.) and they ROCK ROCK ROCK. Nobody needs XFACTOR, IDOL or AMERICA’S GOT TALENT to tell them they have talent. Its just an opportunity to get on television and be ‘seen’…and believe me, there are more ways than one to be heard my friends. There are many ways you can put yourself out there…lots of people have been discovered on youtube, at Karaoke contests, fronting bands, musical theatre. GO FOR IT and don’t let some puny judge from XFactor who probably gets paid in peanuts to sit on a stool and say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ discourage you. Note to XFactor…instead of making people wait in the rain, cold and wind while you scream ‘Are you ready to win a million dollars?’…and get your money shots for the very deceiving promotional pieces you put out for this show…try getting some real judges that actually know a thing or two about the industry, talent and vocal ability. Your judges know nothing. They are rude, obnoxious, arrogant and they don’t get enough sleep. Hence my brilliant judge who fell asleep before I put my jacket down. I’m all for competition…and there are plenty of people who blow me out of the water…but I know what I can do, and aside from me, you have passed over thousands of talented individuals who deserved a shot. Way to produce a show that reinforces building people up and making them think they have a real shot and then crush their hopes by picking idiots for judges and conveying once again to America, that if you really DO have talent, you have no shot. Unless, of course, you dress like a Thanksgiving Day Float…

Hey people of talent and character, just wanted to say something without bumming you out. “you don’t know how easy you have it!” Sorry just saying…I came from the generation of people who were fiercely talented but we didn’t have no talent shows or “make it big” fast contests. We had to do things the old fashioned way: working hard to grow in our art singing to audiences night after night, going to music cities shopping you picture, tape and bio, having door after door slammed in your face and having the character and faith to keep believing and keep trying. It is the regular people and audiences that have kept me going over the years. The executives would expect “favors” from a young beautiful women and they would have to face the “casting couch” syndrome. I mean you are lucky if you get through in one day of waiting for hours and your whole life changes. I mean I spent 20yrs paying my dues. REally your upset you had to go hungry, cold or wait for hours! Try working in clubs for years with all the love in your heart pouring out then tell me how hard you spent one day trying to make it! I still sing today and maybe because I didn’t sleep with my producer that I’m here writing this and singing in church, at parties and for weddings whatever I can to keep the music alive. But if someone told me years ago that I could sacrifice one day, or even a week going without sleep, food, and waiting just to be given an honest chance I would have done it in a heartbeat!

right there with you Tammera, Its kinda funny seeing all the complaining. I’ve been doing this for 30years. There is a generation of instant gratification seekers that think this is owed to them, its in every aspect of life to them. The work hard eithic is long gone. Talent is only a part of the musical makeup. It takes a whole lot of precious time, patients and time as George Harrison wrote to do it right child….
But I did tryout at a Mystudio booth on the 29th, hope they see some seasoning in me, but if they dont, no big deal,I sing every week, I produce and arrange, I play and work with bands all the time. I’m already living the American dream, I get to do what I love for a living, but it didn’t happen over night.
